Matt Price and Kyle Roberts review the Amazing Spider-Man; Marvel may unveil new film project; and Star Wars comes to Kansas on the Planet 46 Comics show.
Kyle: I think it was great. I think the acting was far better than any of the previous Spider-Man films, and I think it’s a great Spider-Man for a new generation.
Matt: I thought Emma Stone was really good as Gwen Stacy, she had great chemistry with Andrew Garfield. It was fun, and a different Spider-Man than the Tobey Maguire films, though I don’t think I liked it better than Tobey Maguire’s take.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: What do you think of the new Amazing Spider-Man movie?
• TOPIC 2: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY FILM IN THE WORKS?
Both Variety and Latino Review report that a “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie is in the works at Marvel. The movie is looking at a release date of May 16, 2014. According to Latino Review, the script is by Nicole Perlman. The official announcement is expected at Comic-Con.
“There is an opportunity to do a big space epic, which Thor sort of hints at in the cosmic side of the universe, with characters in a property called Guardians of the Galaxy,” Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige told EW last year.
The original Guardians of the Galaxy were a team of space heroes that went back in time to recruit the Avengers to help them face a galaxy-destroying alien race. Entertainment Weekly also reports the movie may have more in common with the 1990s reboot by Jim Valentino than the original stories, so start hunting those back-issue bins now.
• TOPIC 3: STAR WARS EXHIBIT IN WICHITA
The Star Wars exhibition at Exploration Place in Wichita, Kansas, is the current sponsor of the Nerdage blog. This exhibition will let fans encounter the fantasy technologies depicted in the Star Wars films, investigate the real science behind them, and look into the current research that may someday lead to remarkable real-life versions of the technologies seen in the film series. The exhibit also has on display more than 80 props, models and costumes from the films!

* SPIDER-MEN 2 – Brian Michael Bendis, Sara Pichelli
Spider-Man faces Spider-Man in the continuation of the first crossover between Marvel’s original universe and the “Ultimate” universe. Peter Parker meets Miles Morales, and because Peter’s unaware he’s crossed into a different universe, the two must scuffle before realizing what’s happened. Mysterio seems to be mixed up in what’s happened to our heroes, though much of the mystery is yet to be revealed. Nick Fury also makes an appearance for a well-written scene. Good dialogue from Bendis throughout and dynamic art and storytelling from Sara Pichelli make this a fun, well-done crossover.
* AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 688 – Dan Slott, Giuseppe Camuncoli
The Lizard returns, worse than ever in Amazing Spider-Man #688, where Spider-Man learns the truce he had with the Lizard may have not been a good idea at all. Now Spider-Man, using a formula created by Morbius the Living Vampire, has decided to put a stop to the Lizard. The serum is created from DNA related to Curt Connors. The series is a natural follow-up to the last Lizard story, “Shed,” but also continues on themes developed through Slott’s run. Despite all this, if you haven’t read a Spidey comic in years, or ever, this is a good place to jump on. It’s a fast-paced comic that isn’t as good as the best of the Dan Slott run, but does what it’s meant to do as a comic coming out in conjunction with the “Amazing Spider-Man” movie.
• FATALE #6 – Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips
The second arc of “Fatale” continues to develop in two time periods; while the first arc was set in modern times and the 1970s. In modern times, Nicolas Lash is still digging into the story of Josephine as danger gets ever closer. In the flashback story in 1970s Los Angeles, Jo is trying to establish a new life. B-List movie star Mitch is looking for a fix, but stumbles onto a scene of grisly murder, spurred on by a mysterious film reel. Mitch attempts to rescue his friend, Suzy, which leads him to Jo, setting up the mystery of the second arc.
This horror-noir from Image Comics remains one of the best comics being published.
